The lavender bag, a Provencal must-have

If one object were to represent Provence alone, it would be the eternal lavender bag. This essential accessory combines the useful with the pleasant to the delight of the whole family. Happy is the person who slips in the wardrobe or pillow these little bags of olfactory happiness that instantly make zen and serene.

In ancient times, the Romans were already picking the pretty blue buds on the hills and knew of their precious virtues. Around the village of Sault in Haute Provence, the lavender fields form a bright blue scarf with a delicate fragrance. In 1866, Eugène Cheyrias decided to harvest the wild flower that grew in these breathtaking landscapes. He began his work by ploughing the land, before cultivating fine lavender, the most prestigious variety of lavender. Six generations later, his descendant, Franck Cheyrias, a passionate farmer, perpetuates the quality requirements and environmental values of Sarraud Farm.

Perfume your home in a healthy and natural way

In Provence, harvesting lavender and lavandin flowers is an ancestral tradition. It begins in July and ends in mid-August. To avoid damaging the plant, which blooms for about ten years, the flowers should be picked by hand with a sickle. After the harvesting period, the bunches are gently placed indoors to dry. The lavender grower arranges and cuts the flowers of his bouquet in tiers to give it volume and harmony. To make the precious bags, the flower is detached from its calyx and stem, then sorted by hand to remove impurities.

Wrapped in pretty little bags in the colours of the south, fine lavender joins the wardrobes and bedding of adults and children. Its immortal fragrance spreads slowly and tickles the curious nostrils. Breathing in a beautiful whiff of lavender invades with a wave of well-being. It imbues linen with its subtle olfactory message. To revive its fragrance, simply rub the flowers gently in the bag. It helps repel moths, these small insects which are attracted to fabrics, keeping wardrobes healthy and fresh.
